Elegant jade sculpture in the shape of a toad (Chan Chu 蟾蜍), the light celadon-colored stone includes a thin orange-colored film called ‘rust’, skilfully used by the sculptor to enhance the animal’s forms, particularly its eyes. It holds a branch and foliage in its mouth. The curved legs under its body and extremities are finely sculpted and openworked.

The toad, historical companion of Taoist guru Liu Hai in his role as god of wealth, is associated with prosperity and the concept of immortality.
