Estimate : 12 000 - 15 000 €

Sold 37 000 €

Exceptional bronze covered vase and display stand in dark patina bronze enhanced with various alloys (sentoku, silver,
shibuichi) and gilding. The vase, resting on a pedestal, is decorated on its two main sides with a scene in a reserve on a background of floral motifs, one depicting a daimyo under an umbrella accompanied by his servant strolling along the banks of a river planted with pine and bamboo, the other showing a woodcutter with his bundle filling his gourd at a waterfall. The sides of the vase are adorned with thousand-flower motifs and various floral compositions, and decorated with two handles featuring numerous plovers in flight. The finely-decorated display takes the form of foaming waves and fans.
The lid features a young woman dressed in an imposing kimono, surrounded by phoenixes at all four corners.
