Important bound work of Chinese paintings containing a series of twenty-two finely executed paintings on silk depicting the various battalions of soldiers present during the Sino-Japanese War of 1884/95.
Each of the paintings bears an inscription in Mandarin describing the type of warrior. Some with a red stamp.

The book: 35 x 28 cm
Each painting: 26 x 16 cm

Provenance: Collection of Baron de X. Military diplomat attached to the British General Staff, who took part in the China, Cochinchina and Annam campaigns between 1854 and 1863. Then by descent in the family.
