Important carved cinnabar lacquer box

An important circular box in carved cinnabar lacquer, the top of the lid finely carved with five sinuous dragons with five claws chasing the flaming pearl against a background of tumultuous waves, the edges with the same wave decoration, the lower part in a similar register and adorned with four dragons. Black lacquered interior and underside. Inside, a double mark: Da Qing Qianlong nian zhi with six characters on the inside of the lower part of the box and Jiulong bao he (Treasure box with nine dragons) on the lid.

Diameter: 28 cm

On the upper part of the lid, a crack of approx. 4 cm extending from the rim. On the lower part of the rim, a few chips and cracks, shocks creating cracks in the lacquer, missing parts and accidents on the foot.
