Important gilded bronze sculpture of a guanyin, shown seated in vajrasana. She holds a scepter in her hands. She is wearing a skirt belted at the waist and a cloth over her shoulders, both embellished with floral braid, her torso richly adorned with jewels. Her face is serene, her almond-shaped eyes half-closed. Her hair is coiffed in a high bun, ending in a lotus and falling in braids on either side. His forehead is encircled by an elaborate tiara.
Carved wooden base.

Provenance: From a Russian family who fled the civil war and expatriated to China in 1919, and again expatriated to France in 1932 following the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese war. Then by descent.
