Porcelain plate with Bleu de Hué decoration of dragon and phoenix among clouds. Mark under the base: khánh xuân thị tả 慶春侍左 (“Celebrating Spring, Left Palace”).

Provenance: Private collection of Monsieur Marcel Page (1896-1971).

Born in 1896, he attended the École militaire des enfants de troupe in Billom, Puy-de-Dôme, before joining the French gas company, where he spent his entire career.
A great art lover and collector, his favorite fields were Asian art, in particular blue and white porcelain, Japanese prints, tsubas and netsukes.

Mr. Page and his wife Andrée lived in the 18th arrondissement north of Paris, first on rue Hermann-Lachapelle, then rue Ordener and finally boulevard d’Ornano, where they were bombed by the Allies in April and August 1944, causing damage to some of the items in the collection.
Close to the Saint-Ouen flea market, of which he was a loyal and unconditional bargain hunter, he made most of his finds there in the first half of the 20th century.
