Rare porcelain jar, Guan, painted with phoenixes, foliage, peony flowers and rocks in iron red, green and yellow.
A double-circle Jiajing mark decorates the base.

Ming porcelains glazed in these tones are rare; a bowl of this type decorated with lotuses and figures and bearing the Jiajing mark (1522-1566) is part of the Baur collection and is illustrated in The Baur Collection, Chinese Ceramics II, pl. A159; a similar Guan jar with lotus decoration from the Sakamoto collection was shown at Sotheby’s New York, March 17, 2015, Lot 37.
