Seal

CHINA - 19th century

Estimate : 6 000 - 8 000 €

Sold 6 000 €

Lavender-blue and light-green Burmese jadeite seal surmounted by a coiled dragon. The base is incised with the characters “裕親王印” Yu qinwang yin “Seal of the Prince of the Yu Blood”.This seal must have been used by one of these princes to sign autographs or paintings. The first to bear this name, the second son of Emperor Shunzhi (r. 1644-1661) was fieffed by Kangxi in 1667. Eleven of his descendants held the title until the 1890s, but little is known about them and they hardly seem to have cultivated the arts of the scholar.
