An exceptional collaboration between two pioneers of Vietnamese lacquerware, graduates of the eleventh class of the École supérieure des Beaux-Arts de l’Indochine.
Admitted to the École des Beaux-Arts d’Indochine in 1936, they graduated in 1941. These two talents became best friends, as well as partners, collaborating on works such as these panels presented in today’s sale.

“The execution of a lacquer work through collaboration and co-creation between two artists is not a frequent or easy task. The execution of a lacquer work
by collaboration and co-creation between two artists is not a frequent or easy task. Lacquer is not executed with the spontaneity of the mind and the hand. Rather, it is imbued with the patience and sureness of the hand, as well as with the mature and determined decision of the author. “1
The first collaborations between these two artists took place in the early 1940s, during the golden age of Vietnamese lacquerware. Such as “La moyenne région” 1942, lacquered panel, 100 x 150 cm or “La Nativité” 1942-1943, lacquered panel triptych, 224 x 146 cm.

The work we present reflects a gentle, serene atmosphere, a blend of reality and ideals, the image of two friends working together in perfect harmony.
